DAMP & MOULD

Damp and mould: fix the moisture source first

Mould usually follows moisture. Cleaning the visible patch without fixing the source often means the problem comes back.

Understand it. Make it safe. Get it fixed.

POSolve gives practical first steps and a clear point to stop and call a professional.

1. Start with the moisture pattern

  • After rain: look for signs of roof, window or wall penetration.
  • Near plumbing: check for dripping fittings, pipe leaks or damp cabinetry.
  • In bathrooms and kitchens: poor ventilation and condensation may contribute.
  • On cold external walls: recurring condensation can be part of the pattern.

2. Low-risk steps

Keep the area dry and ventilated

Where practical, increase ventilation, dry small condensation patches promptly and avoid placing furniture tightly against persistently damp walls. Stop any obvious minor water source you can isolate safely.

3. When not to treat it as a simple cleaning job

Get professional help when damp is recurring, widespread, linked to a leak, follows flooding, affects ceilings or structural materials, or keeps returning after normal ventilation and drying. The underlying moisture source may need building, roofing, plumbing or waterproofing work.

4. Health and safety

If anyone experiences symptoms around mould or has a medical concern, seek appropriate healthcare advice. POSolve can help with the home-maintenance side of the problem but does not provide medical diagnosis.
